Flood Watch Issued for Windsor-Essex and Pelee Island

Strong winds over the weekend have prompted a flood watch for Windsor Essex.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued the watch Friday night with high lake levels and winds capable of hitting 40 km/hr.

Under the watch, shorelines from Lakeshore to Point Pelee have the potential for overland flooding due to high waves; Wheatley Harbour and Point Pelee National Park may be hardest hit.

Pelee Island is also under a flood watch, according to ERCA.

The conservation authority is asking residents to keep away from lakes, rivers and streams due to fast moving water and slippery banks.

The flood watch remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.
