A Chatham man is facing charges after a half a million dollars drug bust in Leamington.

It all started around 2pm on January 29th, when the Ontario Provincial Police and Leamington fire crews were called to a garage fire in the 500-block of Mersea Rd. 8 for a fully involved fire.

During the investigation, investigators found several items related to the production of illicit cannabis and cannabis by-products.

A search warrant was executed on January 30th and officers seized over 80-kilograms of dried cannabis, 60-kilograms of cannabis oils and resin and one-kilo of hardened cannabis resin.

56-year-old Douglas Johnstone of Chatham is charged with alter or offer to alter the chemical or physical properties of cannabis by the use of an organic solvent.

Johnstone will appear in court next month.

The OPP's Community Street Crime Unit and the Clandestine Laboratory Investigative Response Team along with the Ontario Fire Marshal's office continues to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
