Harrow and Colchester South Community Centres Set to Reopen

Starting Sept. 8, the Harrow and Colchester South Community Centre will open its doors for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recreational ice rink user groups can begin to rent space with new protocols in place next Tuesday.

They include undergoing screening prior to entering the arena conducted by staff or volunteers of the league or organization they are participating with.

Director of Community Services Doug Sweet, says the towns excited to get back on the ice.

"Going to open up beginning Tuesday at the Harrow Arena; our staff are currently working on our protocols to ensure we have the possible signage in place and cleaning the entire facility," he says.

Sweet says it won't be a rush through the door Tuesday, but ice time is scheduled well into Christmas.

"The first couple weeks are a little slower as they're starting to get their people coming back for their organizations, but it's booked solid," he says.

Sweet says the same protocols will apply to the building as most arenas across Essex County.

"We want to be somewhat consistent with what others are doing, but we're not going to be identical because we all have different layouts and different amenities in our facilities," he added.
