Health officials want everyone to have a great time this Labour Day weekend, but they're reminding them to do it safely.

That was the message sent at the Windsor Regional Hospital Board meeting Thursday.

Thousands of families are going to get away for some fun in the sun or a camping this weekend.

Chief of Staff Dr. Wassim Saad, says there's always a concern about a second wave of COVID-19, but not if people stay responsible.

"There's a tendency for people to relax some of the social distancing and hand hygiene measures," he says. "So it is a concern, but no more than the rest of the summer when we opened up to Phase Three."

President and CEO David Musyj, says keeping your distance, wearing a mask and cleaning your hands and the space used may be a drag, but it's the only way to make sure everyone stays safe.

"We're not saying people shouldn't spend time with their friends or family during Labour Day weekend, but you need to minimize the risks," he added.

Musyj says the best way to physically distance and still have fun is to plan to be outside.

"A little cooler, but it's still outdoor weather. So have your events our doors, don't go indoors unless it's to go to the bathroom, but spend your time outside and focus on things like that," says Musyj.

Musyj reminds vacationers to wear masks in close quarters with others and wash hands regularly.

He also says to mind public gathering limits laid out by the province both indoors and outdoors this holiday weekend.
