HDGH Big Night Party cancelled amid ransomware attack
The latest fallout from the ransomware attack at several hospitals in southwestern Ontario, including here in Windsor-Essex, is the cancellation of the Hotel Dieu-Grace Healthcare Big Night Party.
The gala was scheduled for November 10th, but a spokesperson says in light of the cyber attack, it has cancelled the event in order to support hospital teams and a member of the HDGH Foundation will reach out to attendees.
As you've heard on AM800, Windsor Regional Hospital, Hôtel-Dieu Grace, Erie Shores HealthCare, Bluewater Health, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance are working with leading cybersecurity experts, and are continuing to work around the clock to restore systems.
TransForm Shared Service Organization, which operates hospital systems, has been working closely with local police departments, Ontario Provincial Police, INTERPOL and the FBI as well as regulatory organizations such as the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner and hopes to have service restored in the coming week.
The attack has impacted IT services, email, WIFI, and patient services forcing the postponement of several procedures, however the total number remains unknown.
Windsor Regional Hospital is working with other healthcare centers in Ontario to provide cancer care in the wake of the ransomware attack.
The major cyber incident started last Monday (October 23) and was originally called a "service interruption."
