Huron Church Road Reopening Delayed

The completion of a major road reconstruction project in Windsor is delayed.

Executive Director of Operations Dwayne Dawson says the work on Huron Church Road between Malden Road and Pool Avenue will be extended for at least two weeks.

The work was expected to wrap up on Friday but Dawson says due to the extreme heat and some rain it's been pushed back a couple of weeks.

"With a few rain days and some very extreme heat that caused us to delay some concrete pours, we're looking at an extra two weeks of work to finish the project on site," says Dawson.  "We hope to have the traffic into two lanes in each direction by the end of next week."

He says despite the delay, he's pleased with how the work.

"Due to the reduced traffic that has assisted the project, the travelling public, the truck drivers and all the businesses a long the corridor have also helped to make this a successful project thus far," says Dawson.

He says the delay will not impact the project's budget.

"The contractor was unable to work certain days, it's a working day contract so from that, they got some extension into the month of August," says Dawson.

Work on the project began in mid-April.

The $4.8-million project includes new concrete, curbs, sidewalks, medians and street lighting.

The province chipped in $3-million.
