Islanders Blast Red Wings

Brock Nelson scored a pair of goals as the New York Islanders routed the Detroit Red Wings 8-2 at Nassau Coliseum.  

Jordan Eberle and Josh Bailey scored 36 seconds apart early in the first and Nelson made it 3-0 New York less than four minutes later.

Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock had two assists each as the Isles ended a two-game skid.  

Filip Hronek and Givani Smith scored goals for Detroit, which lost its second straight.  

Jimmy Howard gave up the first three goals on seven shots before being replaced in net by Calvin Pickard.
