The Town of LaSalle has been rated one of the top 50 places in which to live in Canada.

The annual ranking by MoneySense magazine places LaSalle as the 8th best place to live in Ontario and 26th best place in Canada out of 417 communities.

The "Canada's Best Places to Live 2017" list puts LaSalle 18th out of top 100 Canadian places to raise kids, 47th for the best weather, 49th for home affordability and 6th overall in the low crime category.

Mayor Ken Antaya says that took them by surprise, but they're not surprised. "That's what we strive for is to ensure that we're providing a good service to the community at the right price. I think this sort of exemplifies that or at least validates that, we provide the services that most people want and makes LaSalle an attractive place to live."

But Antaya notes that he qualities cited in the rankings are the same things that work against the town when the seek out government grants. "They say your household income is too high, the resale value of the homes is too high,  unemployment is low and crime is low. It's all just little things that add to the quality of life.
