Lawsuit Filed Over Steam Injuries from Manhole Covers

A lawsuit is being filed on behalf of twenty people over injuries they say they suffered from steam that comes up from the manholes in the city of Detroit.

Detroit Thermal LLC, Detroit Renewable Energy LLC, and Project Mist HoldCo LLC are listed in the suit but the city of Detroit is not.

Sarah Tahmouch says her then five-year-old son was burned walking across the street at the Science Center on John R. St.

"We had to go to the University of Michigan burn unit where they had to pop the blisters and put bandages on them and we had to clean them ourselves," says Tahmouch.

Attorney Robert Lantzy of Buckfire Law Firm is one of the attorneys in the case. He says the age of the victims ranges from 3-years-old to 71-years-old.

Detroit Thermal issued a statement saying they have not been served and can't comment on the lawsuit, but they are working to modernize their natural gas facility and underground steam pipes.
