Local School Boards Select Chairs for Upcoming School Year
There will be a new face at the helm of the Greater Essex County District School Board.
Trustee Ron LeClair has been selected as the board's new chair for the 2020 school year.
This is LeClair's first crack at leading the board after being elected as the trustee for LaSalle and Amherstburg in 2014.
He says the board has accomplished a lot in the past year and he's hoping to keep that trend going.
"We have a lot of challenges before us, but we have a lot of really positive things happening in the board. We have several new builds. We've got a single-use plastic taskforce underway. We started live streaming last year. So we've done a lot of positive work in the past year and we're going to continue to move forward as a board."
LeClair says he's got a great group of trustees to work with.
"We have a very, very good group here that are all engaged into making good things happen for the public school system and making sure that our students have a good learning environment, a safe learning environment. It's the same group and I was fortunate enough to be selected as chair."

He says one major project he'd like to see move forward is the revamp of Windsor Stadium.
"I would love to see some momentum with Windsor Stadium. It's a piece of property that not only has significant historic memories for a lot of people in our community, it truly is a gem and we just need to restore it to that glory."
LeClair is taking over for outgoing chair Jessica Sartori.
Trustee Cathy Cooke was elected as the public board's new vice chair.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board held its board election Tuesday night as well.
No change there — trustee Fulvio Valentinis will stay on as chair for another term while trustee Lisa Soulliere will return as the board's vice chair.
