New Hotel Being Built in Amherstburg
A new hotel will be built in the Town of Amherstburg.
Nor-Built Construction and Mayor Aldo DiCarlo held a joint news conference to make the announcement at the site of the new Quality Inn & Suites, at the corner of Simcoe St. and Meloche Rd. on Thursday morning.
Nor-Built President Norbert Bolger says the announcement has been a long time coming and he is thrilled to be moving ahead with the project.
Bolger tells AM800 News this project would not have happened without the work of town staff.
"They have been very willing to work with us, whereas many years ago they weren't quite as easy but we are definitely open for business and we hope to see some more development like this," says Bolger.
Bolger tells AM800 News the hotel will feature dozens of rooms and two conference rooms.
"It will have 60 rooms, it has room for 120 people for a conference or weddings, which will be split in two so you can do different events," says Bolger. "The value of the hotel is $10-million and the total value of the entire project is closer to $20-million, depending on what goes next to us."
The project still needs to go before council as the company must receive zoning approval.
Bolger admits the hotel project may be a bit of a risk since they do not have an updated market study.
"It's about eight years old and they did not recommend one at the time and we going to be doing another one," adds Bolger. "I'm pretty confident in this town that this is definitely what we need."
Nor-Built Construction hopes to be taking reservations at the hotel in 2020.
Bolger adds they are in discussions with other businesses about locating near the hotel.
This would be the first hotel for Nor-Built Construction, which has traditionally constructed apartment buildings.
Bolger says they are getting assistance from another hotel development currently underway in Goderich.
