Postcards Mailed to Tecumseh Residents at Risk of Flooding

The town of Tecumseh is sending out postcards to residents who may be affected by potential flooding this fall.

Lake St. Clair is currently sitting 24cm higher compared to this time in 2018.

It is also 76 cm above the long-term average for September.

The postcards are being distributed in Wards 1, 2 and 3 and provide information on how to register for help and to remind residents to prepare for a potential evacuation.

"We know there are a number of elderly and limited mobility individuals that live in town who may not be able to evacuate on their own," says Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara.  "We want them to reach out to us so we can assist."

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has extended its flood warning to October 15.

With the elevated lake levels, sustained winds above 30-40km per hour for five hours or more along the shoreline, will create a risk of flooding due to the waves.
