Public Board Bringing Parents Into The 'Digital Classroom'

The Greater Essex County District School Board is hoping to improve communication between students, teachers and parents.

A new software program called 'Edsby' is being introduced across the board.

Superintendent of Education, John Howitt, describes it as an extension of the classroom. "Edsby is an online learning management system that really stretches the classroom beyond the walls. It allows for us to expand using a digital classroom, helps with the flip classroom, also allows students to interact and share with their own learning based on the resources that are there."

"Edsby also reaches out to parents and parents and guardians are our partners in learning," says Howitt. "We want to be able to connect with them in an online world. It collates all of the events from all of the activities, groups, extra curricular's, classroom activities, all collates on to one calendar."

Howitt says the goal is to have the program available to all parents by the end of the school year.
