Public Library Set to Welcome Community to New John Muir Library in Sandwich Town
A grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday afternoon in Sandwich Town.
The Windsor Public Library is officially opening its doors to the new John Muir Public Library Branch on Mill St.
Library CEO Kitty Pope says the branch has held a soft opening for the past three weeks and the response has been positive.
"Folks who haven't been in the library are coming back to us," says Pope. "Kids are there now every day, nono that's my chair, no that's my chair, no that's my chair, I sat there yesterday, you can sit there today, they love the space. There's room for young adults, there's still the children's area. The response has been huge from Sandwich."
She says it's an exciting time for the community.
"Three and a half years in the planning, thousands and thousands of hours and the most beautiful public library in Canada is opening Saturday in Windsor," says Pope.
Pope says the grand opening celebration begins at 1pm.
"Obviously we'll do all the thank-you's because we have a lot of people to thank," says Pope. "We'll be cutting the ribbon, we'll be doing tours, the architect will be there talking about the fine details and of course we're a library, lots of kids programs and what would an opening be without cupcakes and icing."
The $5.2-million branch is located at 363 Mill St. in the former fire hall and stable.
Both are designated heritage buildings.
