Restrictions at Windsor Regional Hospital, Erie Shores Healthcare

Visitor restrictions are being put in place at Windsor Regional Hospital and Erie Shores Healthcare in Leamington, as part of efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

The hospitals have announced that visitor restrictions will begin at 12:01 a.m., March 14.

In a release, officials say they will only allow one visitor per patient except:

  • Two visitors for paediatric patients
  • Two visitors for patients in critical care/Neonatal Intensive Care
  • Two visitors for palliative patients

The hospital says no other visitors, or visitors under the age of 18, will be permitted.

WRH officials say they are willing to make special exceptions to the visitor policy on compassionate grounds, but only at the request and approval of the patient, and in consultation with the care team and infection control team.

As part of the restrictions, officials ask that one or two individuals be designated to be the visitors, per patient, throughout that person's stay in the hospital.

You should not visit a patient if you have travelled outside of Canada over the past 14 days, have been in contact with someone who has or if you're feeling ill.

"These measures are being implemented as part of our best efforts to limit the potential transmission of the COVID-19 virus from person to person," said David Musyj, President and CEO.

Musyj adds that if you're unsure whether you have contracted the COVID-19 virus, contact your primary care provider, medical clinic or the Windsor-Essex Public Health Unit 519 258 2146 ext. 1420, or call Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000 (24 hours, seven days a week).
