The Flint Firebirds have handed the Windsor Spitfires their first loss of the pre-season.

The Firebirds beat the Spits 3-2 Wednesday night at the WFCU Centre.

Head Coach Trevor Letowski says his team had a slow start.

"I thought we weren't ready to play a hockey game in the first period," says Letowski.  "I thought we were below average and as the game went on, we generated a lot of chances.  I thought we were snake bitten a lot.  We hit a few posts and hit a crossbar, their goalie made some big saves."

He adds his team had plenty of chances in the second and third.

"We got to build from it, I mean we have a lot to learn," says Letowski.  "We got some young players playing."

Ruben Rafkin and Kyle McDonald scored for the Spits.

The team now heads to Sarnia on Friday night to begin a home and home with the Sting.
