A man from the United Kingdom has been arrested after swimming across the Detroit River to Zug Island.

According to the Associated Press,  Christopher Sagajillo, 56, has been charged in Detroit federal court with unlawful re-entry to the U.S.

He was deported from Chicago in 2010 for overstaying his visa.

He was then arrested last month, on December 13th after he was discovered by security at U.S Steel Corp.

It is reported that he told authorities that he swam across the river from Canada to Zug Island at night.

According to court documents, border officials found a wetsuit on Zug Island.

There is no word why he wanted to return to the U.S.
