UPDATE: House Fire in East Windsor Under Investigation
One person has been taken to hospital after a fire ripped through a home in east-Windsor
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from a home on Copperfield Place near Little River Acres Drive around 2 p.m. Sunday.
Ryan Kiteley lives across the street. He was treated for smoke inhalation on scene after kicking the front door down in an attempt to pull the man from the home.
"Got in there a little bit, but I couldn't get up the stairs. I was yelling for him, then I ran around the back, but the gate was locked so I kicked a couple planks out of his gate but I couldn't get through so I ripped the gate off,” he says. “The window was breaking and I couldn't get through the back door because there were flames all through the living room.”
Kiteley didn't give up.
"Came back around the front and tried to get in a little bit more. Then the neighbour there came over and we kept yelling from the front door and that's when the fire department showed up," says Kiteley. "He's been my neighbour for like 20-years. I know he was home alone."
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate, according to Windsor Fire and Rescue Service.
A damage estimate has yet to be released and there still no word on the man's status.
