Vancouver Man Sentenced in Windsor Man's Death
A Vancouver man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for a hit and run crash that killed a Windsor man.
The BC Prosecution Service has confirmed in an e-mail to CTV News that Amanpreet Singh Sohal was sentenced on Sept. to 18 months in jail and a one year driving prohibition.
30-year-old Ryan Barron was hit and killed while riding his skateboard in Vancouver in April 2016.
In December 2018, Vancouver police arrested and charged Sohal, 23 at the time, in connection to the case.
This past February, Sohal pleaded guilty to a charge of failure to stop at an accident causing bodily harm as part of a plea agreement.
Shortly after the guilty plea was issued, Barron's father Terry, said he was not sure if 18 months or 18 years is really justice.
Since Barron's death, the City of Windsor approved the creation of a $200,000 concrete bowl in the Atkinson Skate Park that will be named in memory of Ryan Barron.
Fundraising has been taking place to raise the money needed to build the structure.
