Via Rail Announces Service Reduction

Via Rail is limiting its train service, including routes to and from Windsor.

In a release on Thursday, the company says “The health and safety of our passengers and employees are, as always, our top priorities. VIA Rail continues to closely monitor the development of COVID-19, and we remain in close contact with public health agencies and the federal and provincial government.”

The statement also says the Windsor-Quebec corridor trains will now be stopping at every station to better serve customers, which will result in longer trip times.

Business class service will no longer be offered on any of our routes. The service currently offered in Economy class will be applied to all passengers on all services currently in operation.

All passengers will receive a complimentary snack and water. No other food or beverage service will be offered and passengers with food restrictions are being asked to plan accordingly.

Windsor typically has four trains that leave the station on Walker Rd. and the Via Rail website currently shows two.

Service reductions are in place until further notice.
