A new grassroots group is lobbying for the new mega hospital project in Windsor.

The group called "42 Forward" has launched a petition to support the location of the proposed new acute care hospital on County Rd. 42 and the 9th Concession.

Speaking on AM800's the Morning Drive, group co-organizer Joe McParland says this is about a call to action to show the province the vast majority of the population in Windsor-Essex wants the new hospital to be built.

He says the process to pick the location was a fair one and it is time to move forward.

It has launched an online petition at www.change.org support the new hospital.

It also plans to launch a postcard campaign.

McParland says this is not about fighting the group CAMPP — Citizens for an Accountable Mega Hospital Planning Process.

"We don't want to be known as the anti-anything," he says. "We want to be known as a group of citizens who believe very deeply that a process was initiated at the request by the honourable Dwight Duncan back many years ago to take a look at our infrastructure needs here."

He says hospital staff, doctors, nurses and patients deserve better.

"We have unsafe hospital conditions right now, we are basically forcing doctors to practice 21st century medicine in 20th century facilities."

A rally is scheduled for Thursday, October 3 at 6pm at the Signature Tribute Event Centre at 3310 Dougall.

CAMPP is appealing the city's decision to re-zone the land saying it will encourage urban sprawl and it wants a hospital closer to the city core.

The hearing before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal is scheduled for October 8th to the 10th at Windsor City Hall.
