VIDEO: Hundreds Gather for Transportation Career Fair

The first ever job fair for those that always want to stay on the move is in the books.

Hundreds of people looking for work in transportation and logistics attended the Southwestern Transportation Career Fair at the Institute for Border Logistics and Security on Saturday.

Fulger Transport's Jennifer McConnell says the area has seen thousands of people hired in the transportation industry over the past decade.

But there are still hundreds of jobs for young dispatchers, truck drivers, and logistic professionals are out there for the taking.

"It's incredibly important that we have the younger generation really step up and take some of these roles," says McConnell. "That's just simply because the older generation is actually retiring."

McConnell tells AM800 News it was a great turn out.

"The quality of the candidates was fabulous. Pretty well every candidate that came to my booth I could have hired on the spot," she added.

McConnell says 20 venders took part in the fair from throughout the region.

"We have trucking companies, we have some farms here, we have insurance brokers and we have 401 Truck Source and they brought some OEM [Original Equipment Manufacturer Trucks]. So we had Volvo and Mack's here on display as well," she says.

The job fair was organized by the Windsor Transportation Club, who hopes to run the fair annually or biannually moving forward.

McConnell says anyone who couldn't make it our can visit the Windsor Transportation Club website to see what postings are available.
