Vipers Set for Home Opener

The LaSalle Vipers are set to play their home opener in the the Greater Ontario Jr Hockey League.

The Vipers host the London Nationals at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Vollmer Centre.

The Vipers are 1-1 so far this season after a 4-1 win over Stratford and a 5-3 loss to Thorold in the Showcase Tournament last weekend in Pelham.

LaSalle head coach John Nelson says they have several very good local players.

"We have a slew of them, our two underagers this year are Ray Hamlin and Cayden Faust and we're really excited about these two guys and I think they have a very bright future in the OHL, and that's the direction they want to go.  We have a real good local flavour this year from LaSalle."

Nelson tells AM800 Sports the home opener is always a special event.

"We have a lot of new kids on our team so there going to experience a real fun night especially playing against London, who is always a top team in our division, so I think it's going to be an exciting night.

Last season the Vipers were 22-20-2-4 while the Nationals were 33-12-1-2.

Thursday night, the Flyers will open their home portion of the schedule as they'll host the St Thomas Stars.
