Ward Meeting to Focus on Downtown Windsor

A series of ward meetings across Windsor continues Tuesday night with a meeting for downtown residents.

Ward three city councillor Rino Bortolin holds his ward meeting tonight with a bit of a twist.

Bortolin says this year, he will start off with an hour and a half presentation before taking questions.

He says he wants to take the time, to give the whole picture of the ward.

"A couple years ago we saw the mayor go around to all the ward meetings, do a presentation on the flooding. If you live downtown, if you live in the core, the issues that are facing the core are just as big an issue as the flooding was for some of the residents in other parts of the city," says Bortolin.

The ward three councillor says he wants to make sure resident have all the information before they ask questions.

"It's really meant to go high level and then both administration and representatives from all these agencies," says Bortolin.  "I mean this is probably the first and only ward meeting in the city where I'll have representatives from the {Downtown} Mission, Canadian Mental Health Association and the Aids Committee {of Windsor}".

Bortolin says Windsor is doing a lot of things that are on the fore-front compared to other municipalities.

"We are doing things well and so when you don't see the traction, it's not necessarily because of in action on our part and that's sort of what I want to convey and make sure people understand that," he says.

The ward three meeting runs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Windsor Public Library's Central Branch on Ouellette Ave.

Ward eight city councillor Gary Kaschak holds his ward meeting on Wednesday at Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Fabio Costante holds his ward two meeting on Thursday at Church of the Ascension.

Both those meetings begin at 6:30pm.
