Windsor man charged following Chatham retail theft investigation

A Windsor man has been taken into custody after a theft investigation in Chatham.
Around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Chatham-Kent police responded to Canadian Tire where a loss prevention staff member was attempting to place a suspected shoplifter under arrest for theft.
Police say the man was observed grabbing multiple items including a crowbar, mechanic gloves, long-handled bolt cutters, and a deadbolt lock. The man then made his way to the garden center and attempted to throw the items over a fence.
When officers arrived on scene, the man attempted to flee and was apprehended after a short foot chase.
He was arrested and held pending a bail hearing.
