Windsor's First Retail Pot Shop Opens with a Few Restrictions
Windsor's first retail cannabis store is set to open Saturday, but it won’t be business as usual.
The downtown Windsor location of J. Supply Co. will open at 545 Ouellette Ave. at 10 a.m. and will close at 6 p.m.; shortened hours, according to Chief Design Officer David Craig
"We're all very excited. It's obviously strange times with the COVID-19 virus, but we've taken precautions for that and we've got a full protocol in place to keep all of our staff and community safe," he says.
Staff will screen customers for symptoms and limit the amount of people in the store; they'll also assure those waiting in line are respecting physical distancing practices, he added.
Craig tells AM800 News every employee will be provided personal protective equipment and will sanitize the shop regularly.
It won't be the grand opening they were hoping for, but he says it's still a great day for pot enthusiasts in Windsor.
"We can't do all the things that we want to do, but we're doing all the things that we can do safely." he says. "It's been a long time coming. There's a lot of thought and passion that goes into creating something like this so I'm very excited to see it come to reality."
Craig says sale items that would usually be out on display will also be locked behind glass to limit physical contact.
He says walk-ins aren't available, but staff monitoring the line outside will have info on how to order online so orders are ready when customers get inside.
Only debit and credit will be accepted until the COVID-19 pandemic is over, added Craig.
