Students name LaSalle's new snowplow
Grade one students at École élémentaire Monseigneur Augustin Caron in LaSalle have named the town's new snowplow.
The French elementary school on Matchett Road took part in the town's naming contest and submitted the name 'Sonic le chasse-neige.'
"Sonic" was selected as the winning name beating out Snowdozer, Snowflake, Frostbite, and The Icer.
Grade one teacher Nicole Beaudet says one of her students is obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog and suggested the name.
She says they also thought of some others.
"Being at a French school we came up with a bunch of French names," says Beaudet. "So we had bonhomme de neige, flocon de neige so the translation means snowman and snowflake and then Sonic."

LaSalle's Manager of Roads and Parks Mark Beggs says students voted on the name during the town's Truck or Treat event.
"Each of the classes came up with a bunch of names for the plows and this was the name that won," says Beggs.
Beggs says it was an exciting contest for the students.
"We thought it would be a really good involvement with the community and we were hoping maybe that some of the kids would get excited about the truck and maybe we have some future plow drivers in the school," says Beggs.
The town brought "Sonic" to the school Thursday morning for pictures with the students.
In September, the town asked grade one students at elementary schools in LaSalle to enter one name on behalf of their school.
The town also received entries from St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary, LaSalle Public, Legacy Oak Trail Public School, and Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School.
