Lady Gaga Shows Her True Colours With 'Chromatica'
“Now dance motherf**ckers!!!!!!!”
This is one of two directives Lady Gaga tweeted upon the release of her highly-anticipated new album Chromatica.
“Please listen from the beginning to the end,” she also said. “No need to shuffle, it’s my true story.”
Chromatica is Gaga’s sixth studio album (and fifth solo one) and her first since 2016’s Joanne. It’s also the first new music from Gaga since 2018’s A Star Is Born soundtrack.
Chromatica, which has already spawned the singles “Stupid Love,” “Rain on Me” and “Sour Candy,” was originally scheduled to drop on April 10 but was pushed to May 29 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Elton John, Ariana Grande and BLACKPINK are featured on the album.
“I want to put out a record that forces people to rejoice even in their saddest moments,” the pop star told Paper. “And by the way, I’m not standing over here with a flag going, ‘I’m all healed, everything’s perfect.’ It’s not; it’s a fight all the time. I still work on myself constantly. I have bad days, I have good days.
"Yeah, I live in Chromatica, it took a minute to get here, but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember what happened. If you’re in pain and listening to this music, just know that I know what it’s like to be in pain. And I know what it’s like to also not let it ruin your life.”
Chromatica is earning raves from fans and critics alike.
“Gaga rediscovers the riot on her most personal album,” reads a headline at The Guardian, while Billboard declares “Chromatica is the Summer Dance-Pop Escape We All Needed.” USA Today named it Gaga’s “best album in a decade” and Variety described Chromatica as “her best album since Born This Way — and possibly, song for song, her best yet.”
Legendary crooner Tony Bennett, Gaga's 93-year-old Cheek to Cheek partner, tweeted: "Congratulations on the new release, Lady! You've once again proven your talent and commitment to artistry."

#Chromatica is everything I never knew I needed... 💕🤍💓 I can’t sit still to any of the songs lol— NIKI DEMAR (@nikidemar) May 29, 2020
There are Grammy categories for Traditional Pop Vocal Album and Traditional Blues Album. Chromatica makes me wish there were one for Traditional Gay Album.— Louis Virtel (@louisvirtel) May 29, 2020
#chromatica is @ladygaga ‘s best album since BTW. The sound is cohesive throughout but each song packs it’s own unique punch. Sine from above is my favourite but this has changed and will probably change again. Can’t stop listening. Now all we need is the haus labs Babylon— Chromatica⚔️punk (@Chromaticapunk1) May 29, 2020
I no longer identify as anything BUT a Chromatican as of May 29, 2020.— LG Updates (@ChromaticaBall) May 29, 2020
#Chromatica is perhaps the most meticulously arranged albums in recent times. It's a whole ass experience.— Atif Riaz (@thatatifriaz) May 29, 2020
Thank you @ladygaga for bringing a little sense of joy during this dark time. pic.twitter.com/O7pZuV9wTt
really sad i won’t get to listen to #chromatica in its entirety the way it deserves to be heard: sweaty, off my tits, probably slightly sunburned, and among a sticky, screaming mass of queer freaks in various states of undress— ben (@benvyle) May 29, 2020
