Ben Higgins to return to the Bearcats for 2019-20

Truro Bearcats

The Truro Bearcats have announced that Ben Higgins will be returning to the team for the upcoming Maritime Hockey League season.

The 20-year-old from Bible Hill was a territorial draft pick of the Bearcats in 2015 and played with the club in 2015-16, tallying 13 goals and 15 assists.

The past three seasons have been with the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads.

Higgins came through the Truro and Area Minor Hockey program, advancing to the Truro Major Bantam Bearcats for two years before playing with the Weeks Major Midgets.

The Bearcats say Higgins will provide leadership to the club this season, bringing a wealth of experience and a high offensive upside.

Last month, Truro announced the acquisition of 18-year-old goaltender Sébastien Plamondon from the Rayside-Balfour Canadians of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The Hearst, Ontario native played 26 games last season, compiling a 2.49 GAA and a .926 save percentage.

Plamondon joins third year Bearcat Alec MacDonald, giving the Bearcats a non-20-year-old goal-tending tandem with junior experience going into the 2019-2020 season.

As well, the team acquired 6'6", 205 pound winger Zak Yewchuk from Neepawa of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
