A 50-year-old man from Cape Breton is facing eleven charges in connection with a number of thefts in the New Glasgow area.

New Glasgow Regional Police say a man entered a business on Westville Road around 6:10 p.m. on Saturday, but fled after an attempt to steal merchandise.

Police and a K-9 unit were then called to another store on Westville Road, where the suspect was located and arrested.

The investigation determined that two other stores were also identified as being victims of theft.

The accused faces three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court today.
