Fatal boating accident on Shortt's Lake

RCMP

The RCMP say a 58-year-old Truro man has died in a boating accident on Shortt's Lake.

Two men had been on the lake late Friday morning when their canoe overturned.

The Mounties say the initial investigation has determined that when the boat overturned, one man made it to shore, while the second man remained with the canoe.

Sadly, despite the efforts of a woman on a paddleboard to save him, the man was not able stay afloat.

Officials say there were personal flotation devices in the canoe, but they were not in use at the time of the accident.

The investigation continues.
