Halifax Regional Police say a 36-year-old taxi driver has been charged with sexual assault in relation to an incident that occurred in Halifax over the weekend.

Officers responded around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday to a report of a sexual assault that happened a short time earlier.

Police say a taxi driver drove a female to a residence and sexually assaulted her while she was in the vehicle.

The Halifax man was arrested Sunday afternoon and has since been released, pending an appearance in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date.

Police say the address where the sexual assault occurred will not be released to protect the victim's identity.
