A 64-year-old man from Belleville is facing a number of firearms-related charges after a report that a man had discharged a firearm outside a home in Yarmouth County.

Yarmouth Rural and Town RCMP were contacted just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, leading police to block the road in the area in Belleville and contain the home.

The RCMP say the suspect had re-entered the home by that time.

Additional resources were called in, including an RCMP Dog and Handler, a Crisis Negotiator and the Emergency Response Team.

The man surrendered to police several hours later, exiting the home, and was arrested without incident.

Police say no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The RCMP say the suspect is facing charges of careless use of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized.
