Maritimes clean-up after latest winter storm, many left without power
Tens of thousands of people were still without power across Nova Scotia by midday Saturday in the wake of snow, freezing rain and strong winds that swept the province.
Nova Scotia Power reported 37,000 customers still affected by 11 a.m.
Freezing rain and high winds gusting upwards of 100 kilometres per hour were blamed for the power problems.
The utility expects to have most of the power restored by 11 p.m.
The freezing rain forced the closure of public schools across much of the region Friday, and resulted in delays for many flights.
It was more of a snow event for New Brunswick.
