N.S. company a finalist for Hull Design Efficiency Challenge
A Lower Wedgeport business is one of three finalists for the federal government's Hull Design Efficiency Challenge for the inshore fishery.
The program, which had 19 applications, called for Atlantic region boat builders and designers to develop fuel efficient hull designs to help lower operating costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Wedgeport Boats Ltd. is competing against a pair of companies from St. John's for a non-repayable contribution of $500,000.
The National Research Council of Canada will build and test scale models of each design, with the three finalists also having to submit commercialization plans for future business opportunities for their design.
The winner, announced July 31st, must continue basic research and development to move their design towards pilot and pre-commercialization phases.
