The Nova Scotia government says the Vaping Products Tax will begin September 15th.

Announced as part of the 2020-21 budget, the province will be the first in Atlantic Canada to introduce a tax on vaping products and among the first in the country to require sales permits.

The permit fee for retailers will be $124.60 for a three-year period and $124.60 annually for wholesalers and manufacturers, which must be obtained by August 1st.

Vaping devices will be taxed at a rate of 20 per cent of their suggested retail selling price.

Government says vaping substances will be taxed at the rate of $0.50 per millilitre for liquids and $0.50 per gram for solids.

Exceptions will be made for cannabis vaping substances already taxed under the Coordinated Cannabis Taxation Agreement and tobacco products taxed under the Revenue Act.
