New Glasgow Regional Police investigating thefts from vehicles
New Glasgow Regional Police are reminding the public to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables as they investigate four incidents of thefts from vehicles this week.
A release says the most recent theft occurred Wednesday night and personal identification papers and valuables were stolen.
Police say they have seen over 15 thefts from vehicles this year alone, adding many of the vehicles were unlocked and valuables were in plain view.
New Glasgow Regional Police Constable Ken Macdonald says in a release, "this is clearly a crime of opportunity, were criminals will focus on the unlocked vehicle rather than to focus attention on locked vehicles."
The release states police notice an uptick in these types of thefts this time of year due to the warmer weather, as most of the thefts occurred in the late and early hours of the day.
New Glasgow Regional Police are continuing their investigation and are asking the public to report anything suspicious.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 902-752-1941 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
