Nova Scotia names new FOIPOP review officer

Tricia Ralph has been appointed as the province's new Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) review officer.

Ralph is currently legal counsel for the information and privacy commissioner of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

A review officer has an independent oversight role and is appointed by the governor in council for a term of five to seven years.

Carmen Stuart was appointed Acting Information and Privacy Commissioner on September 1st, after the retirement of Catherine Tully.

Ralph's appointment takes effect on March 1st.

The province also confirmed the creation of a new leadership position, executive director, to improve overall efficiency of the office.
