The Canadian Red Cross says one person was sent to hospital after a fire in New Glasgow early Tuesday morning.

A release states nine people have been displaced by the fire that damaged a large house that contains three apartments.

Volunteers have arranged emergency lodging, plus food and clothing purchases and some other essentials for seven adults and one child who escaped the fire unhurt.

Canadian Red Cross says a man was taken to hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
