Five people have been displaced after a vehicle fire spread to a home containing several apartments in Truro.

Truro Fire Chief Blois Currie tells our newsroom that firefighters responded to the scene on Louise Street just after midnight on Wednesday.

He says a car parked close to the building caught fire.

The blaze extended into the building, but Currie says firefighters had it knocked down before it spread too far inside.

The Canadian Red Cross says their volunteers are helping two adults and three children with emergency lodging and meals.

Currie says the Hilden Volunteer Fire Brigade also responded to the scene.
