SiRT confirms sexual assault investigation
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has confirmed it is investigating an allegation of sexual assault against a male member of the RCMP.
A release says Pictou District RCMP received a call on November 6 from a third party alleging a sexual assault of a female by a RCMP member who is known to her.
SiRT was contacted by the RCMP and assumed responsibility for the investigation in accordance with the Police Act.
The Act gives SIRT sole jurisdiction over the investigation of sexual assault allegations made against a police officer.
It also requires the director to file a public report summarizing the results of the investigation within three months after it is finished.
