SiRT investigating collision between RCMP vehicle and ATV near Sheet Harbour
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a collision between an RCMP vehicle and an ATV in the Sheet Harbour area earlier this month.
SiRT says the affected party (AP) was attempting to flee police on a stolen ATV in the early morning hours of June 6.
A release states during officer's attempts to stop and arrest the AP, who was an escapee from the Northeast Nova Correctional Facility in New Glasgow, a collision between a police vehicle and the ATV occurred.
The AP sustained a broken wrist in the incident.
SiRT says it was contacted by the RCMP as a result of the injury and it is now investigating the matter.
The Serious Incident Response Team investigates all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
The Police Act requires the director to file a public report summarizing the result of the investigation within 90 days of its completion.
