Truro Police warn of local gift card scam

Truro Police are reminding people to double-check gift cards before they buy them to make sure they haven't been tampered with.

Inspector Rob Hearn says they've received complaints of gift card meddling.

He says thieves steal the cards, remove the sticker that conceals the PIN, and record it on their phone.

The sticker is then replaced and the card put back on the rack where it was taken from.

When the card is bought and activated, a message is sent to the thief that the card is activated and they go to use the card before the customer can.

Truro Police are asking anyone who's been a victim of this scam in town to contact them.
