Waycobah man arrested on child pornography charges

The RCMP's Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has arrested a Waycobah man for child pornography offences.

A release states officers searched a home in Waycobah on June 18 after investigators were directed to the residence by a social media application.

The application alerted law enforcement that child pornography was being shared on their service.

RCMP say 43-year-old Wayne Thomas Prosper of Waycobah has been charged with transmitting child pornography, two counts of possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

Police say Prosper was released from custody on strict conditions and will appear in court in October.

In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography, meaning anyone who encounters material or recordings must report it to police.

A failure to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failing to report child abuse.
