There will be a public open house and ribbon cutting this Saturday at the Fundy Discovery Site in Lower Truro.

The former Palliser Motel property was purchased by the Municipality of Colchester in 2015 to further enhance what is already a popular destination for tourists wanting to see the tidal bore.

Improvements to the site include an outdoor amphitheatre, natural playground, new washroom facilities, a trail extension along the dykes, walkways and landscaping.

The County's Research, Policy, and Community Engagement Officer, Devin Trefry, tells our newsroom future projects for the site include developing an interpretive plan regarding the area's tides, nature, history, and culture.

Trefry also says officials are exploring designs for a pedestrian bridge to improve viewing access of the tidal bore.

Saturday's event will begin at 3:30 p.m., and will include live music by local bands, the opening of the natural playground, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, as well as a free barbecue, cake and refreshments.

The tidal bore is predicted to arrive at 5:55pm Saturday to close out the event.
