Interim Waterloo regional police chief named
Waterloo regional police staff superintendent John Goodman will take over as interim police chief when current chief Bryan Larkin leaves in July.
Region of Waterloo Chair Karen Redman made the announcement at Wednesday’s police board meeting.
Waterloo regional police announced Larkin’s “retirement” from the service in April. CTV News confirmed later that day he had been appointed to a high-ranking position with the RCMP.
On Wednesday, Redman said Larkin’s last day with WRPS will be July 3.
Goodman has been a member of the local police service for over 27 years, serving in various roles, Waterloo regional police said in a media release.
SEARCH FOR A NEW CHIEF
Also on Wednesday, police announced an executive search firm had been hired to help with the recruitment of a new police chief.
Boyden Canada will “conduct a nation-wide search” for candidates, WRPS said in the release.
Goodman will be acting chief until a permanent police chief is found.
