BC RCMP says fire investigators are probing circumstances surrounding a series of wildfires recently set in the Salmo area.

Both Salmo RCMP and Fire Department responded to as many as four brush fires north-west of the Highway 3 and Highway 6 intersection on Saturday, July 24th.

Police believe all four fires were human-caused and have reason to believe they may have been deliberately set, adding that fire crews reported spotting an unknown male fleeing the area on foot at one of the fire scenes.

RCMP say the person of interest was described as wearing a pair of tan-coloured pants, adding physical evidence has also been seized from the fire scenes.

As of Tuesday afternoon, emergency crews have responded to three additional fires in the Salmo area since Saturday.

The most recent blazes include a small fire found around 5AM on Monday at the end of Lagoon Road, a fire around 4:30PM up the Bombi Summit, as well as at 5PM near the intersection of Highway 3 and 6.

Investigators are working to determine any possible connections between the latest fires and the four previously-reported blazes, but anyone with additional information is reminded to contact the Salmo RCMP detachment.
