RDCK Issues Monday Update on Local Wildfires
The Regional District of Central Kootenay’s Emergency Operations Centre is out with another update on local wildfires.
The RDCK says smoke is impeding air support for both the Michaud Creek Wildfire located roughly 21-kilometers south of Edgewood as well as the Octopus Creek Wildfire approximately 11 kilometres south of Fauquier, but air tankers and helicopters will return as soon as it's safe.
Michaud Creek is estimated to be 4600 hectares and Octopus Creek stands at over 11,000 hectares.
An Evacuation Order remains in place for 184 properties impacted by Michaud, with an Evacuation Alert in place for 172 properties primarily north of Hwy 6 and Whatshan areas.
Another Evacuation Order is still in place for 168 properties in Applegrove and Fauquier, and an Evacuation Alert remains active for the communities of Boswell and Sanca.
The Trozzo Creek Wildfire located about seven-kilometres northeast of Winlaw has Evacuation Orders for 32 properties and an Evacuation Alert for 142 properties.
The Cultus Creek Wildfire is estimated to be over 26-hundred hectares and is set to be removed from the Wildfires of Note list today.
The RDCK says crews are mopping up around structures in the Tye area and BC Parks has erected signage advising that Midge Creek Park is closed.
