First 70 recipients of Platinum Jubilee Medal announced
Nova Scotia has announced the first 70 recipients of the Platinum Jubilee Medal.
A release states the medal program was established to mark the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, and will recognize the significant contributions and service of 5,000 Nova Scotians.
The medal displays a crowned effigy of the Queen with her Canadian style and title on the front, while the back features the shield of arms of Nova Scotia with the Queen's Royal Cypher and the dates of her reign.
A pair of mayflowers and the Latin phrase "VIVAT REGINA", "LONG LIVE THE QUEEN" appear at the base.
Local recipients include Don Julien of Truro; Cathy Mason of Stellarton; Bath Peterkin of Parrsboro; Sergeant Sean Reynolds of Pictou County, and Alan Syliboy of Millbrook First Nation
Government says the inagural Platinum Jubilee Medal presentation ceremony will be held in July.
