Dumpster fires deemed suspicious

The Victoria Fire Department doused two dumpster fires overnight and Victoria Police are now investigating the causes as suspicious.

In the first case, the contents of a metal garbage dumpster went-up in flames near a commercial building in the 700 block of Princess Avenue between Douglas and Blanshard. Fire crews knocked it down before it could spread to any buildings.

A half-hour later the second dumpster caught fire in Chancery Lane behind the Yates Street Parkade. In this case a plastic dumpster was destroyed by the fire and the heat melted some irrigation pipes on a nearby building. The Victoria Fire Department says they again managed to put out the fire before it spread.

Both cases are considered suspicious.
